Chaos foreseen in 2019

We daily see the effects of turmoil, chaos, confusion, and turbulence and wonder what the future holds. But it's not in the world of politics, it's in our own organizations.

We must build a unique, cohesive culture from top to bottom now to avoid calamity in the future.

There are basically two types of organizations: those that have a solid foundation with their culture, and those that do not.

Solid foundation:

  • All employees have CLARITY and can easily explain what is unique and true, using consistent language (not just synonyms)

  • Culture is stable over a long period of time

  • Stability creates focused agility and dynamism for growth

  • Culture is real - not aspirational

  • Overarching culture is singular and unites the entire organization

  • Money is spent strengthening the organization, not just rebuilding it

  • Interview and hiring is for FIT into existing culture

Stormy foundation:

  • Employees have a LACK OF CLARITY, use a wide variety of words to describe the culture (sometimes using antonyms)

  • Culture thrashes every few years when a new leader comes in

  • Culture is more aspirational, not actual

  • Multiple cultures exist that create silos

  • Capital is wasted on tangential initiatives, useless equipment and bad contracts

  • They hire for HOPE, needing another...new...culture

Having a solid foundation doesn't mean you'll always be successful. It does mean you'll identify problems more quickly - and need to adjust less often.

Want to know where your organization stands today?

A quick test is to ask a variety of your executives, employees and even competitors: "Give me three words or short phrases to describe our culture?"

Look for consistency and exactness. Right field and 3rd base are both in the ballpark....but they are not the same.
